Winnie Social Story
Join Winnie-the-Pooh, the famous bear of very little brain, and his friends of the Hundred Acre Wood on a fun-filled musical journey about the importance of friendship. Featuring a folk music score infused with acoustic harmonies, this charming and whimsical musical adaptation also uses poetry from A.A. Milne’s original books that will surely touch the heart and delight young audiences and their families alike.

A.A. MILNE (Original Books, 1882 – 1956) was born in London, England, on January 18, 1882. After attending the University of Cambridge’s Trinity College and writing for the literary magazines Granta and Punch, Milne began a successful career as a novelist, poet and playwright in the 1920s. His best known works are his two collections of children’s poetry, When We Were Young and Now We Are Six, and his two books of stories about the lovable bear Winnie-the-Pooh and his animal friends. Milne died on January 31, 1956.
LE CLANCHÉ DU RAND (Book and Additional Lyrics) is an actress, a playwright, and a drama therapist whose work is known and respected across the country in all these fields. She has enjoyed a 30-year acting career that includes many Broadway credits, national tours and leading roles in many of the nation’s top regional theaters. She has three plays for young people published by Dramatic Publishing Company which have been produced at more than 20 theaters, and four plays produced and toured by Lincoln Center Institute. Her published adaptation of THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE was the only children’s play selected to perform at the Sundance Festival in 1999. She is the author and performer of her highly acclaimed one-person show HYSTERICS which has been performed in regional theaters and at conferences and she has also written TRANSCENDENTAL WILD OATS, which is about Louisa May Alcott’s family. She is also a drama therapist with a private practice in Ulster County, N.Y., and has published articles in the field.
NATE COHEN (Director) is a director, teacher and activist. Chicago credits: Directing at Collaboraction and Northwestern, Assisting at Steppenwolf and Northlight. Portland credits include various roles with Artists Rep, Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble, Third Rail Rep, CoHo Productions, Action/Adventure, Theatre Vertigo Resident Director, Lead Producer of the international tour of The Gun Show, Portland Area Theatre Alliance Board Member, and directed World Premieres of KCACTF award-winning plays MIDDLE NAMES and ALONE IN A TAXICAB…. Nate has been a teaching artist at Oregon Children’s Theatre, numerous public schools, and was Program Director of Isinglass/Artists Rep’s esteemed Egg Summer Theatre Leadership Academy.
Join us following a performance for a free a 45-minute creative drama workshop with Northwestern teaching artists. In this special workshop, children and their families will explore themes of the show through a variety of games and creative drama-based activities. The workshop is open to any child who attends the show, but it will be most engaging for students who are of school age and their families.
